I'm going to Hong Kong and I want to buy a new cell phone for use in the U.S. with Verizon. Is this possible?

I've heard that you can get leading cell phones over seas that don't make it to the US market. Is it possible to buy a phone while I'm over there that is really cool, and use it when I get back here to the Collaborative States on Verizon? (I don't plan on using it there, just back here) If so, what do I need to look for? Any suggestions? I would paramour a smart phone that works with Macs, and the only one I know of is the Treo 700p. However, I'm not familiar with transalpine offerings. Also, is there a certain 'band' I need? Anybody else had a luck buying cell phones out of the native land and using them in the US?
I really want to know what I need to look for. I think that Cingular uses GDSM or something like that, what does Verizon use? And how do I have knowledge of if some foreign phone will work with Verizon.
As for the sim card, where do I get a new one? Can I use the sim card that is in my current LG phone from Verizon?
Hi, it is plausible to purchase mobile phones in Hong Kong. However, they sell phones that will only employment mostly on GSM network. In US, T-Mobile and Cingular provides voice and data communication in GSM network.
Most newer GSM handsets sink in fare with bluetooth and they synchronize very well with Macs. However, when you purchase your mobile phone in HK, make sure you get a tri-bunch or quad-band since you need 1900mhz and 850mhz in North America (US and Canada).
With my own sample, I bought a Nokia N70 in HK last February and I have been using it in Canada and in US. You can browse for more phones on the Internet. There are some sympathetic websites that can help you decide the brand and model of the mobile phone that will suite your needs. The website is called GSM Arena (www.gsmarena.com). There is also a forum called Howard Forum (www.howardforums.com) that can accept the blame for some of your mobile phone/provider inquiries within North America (US and Canada).
Lastly, Verizon is not a GSM but CDMA. Therefore, the phone you win in HK mayl not work with Verizon network (if the phone is a GSM mobile phone). If you're into Treo 700p, I'll imply you purchase it directly from the Palm website (web.palm.com).
To give you more understanding on the difference between GSM and CDMA, Here are the links anon from Wikipedia.

Approving luck on your purchasing decision. If you have any other questions, you should/must visit the forum that I referenced earlier. Your inquiries will be answered by non-stationary phone experts and provide you the best advice.
I hope this helps
On your additional call in. Only GSM network provides SIM card. Say, if you're with Cingular or T-Mobile, they provide you with a Sim card that you have to ad in your phone in order to get a frequency and make a call. The downside of Verizon is it doesnt have any sim card. You can't in the final analysis go anywhere in the world and buy a phone hoping that it will work with CDMA network. However, with GSM, you can buy an unlocked phone and you only need to recommendation in your SIM card to make a call. However, the choice is really up to you. You need to scale your needs (like is Cingular/T-Versatile or Verizon provides better signal in the majority of your location?).

If I buy a new cell phone without a plan and simply put my Cingular SIM card into it, will the new phone work?

I'd like to buy a new cell phone, but Cingular won't let me for several more months. If I were to buy hardly any new phone and put my SIM card into it, would the phone work with my plan and with Cingular?
I ask because I know the companies are very strict and posessive with their phones and plans and that it's not feasible to switch a "Verizon" phone into one that works with Cingular.
And if it's possible, I'm also peculiar where the best place is to buy a phone, independent of carrier. I'm guessing the internet?
if you buy a phone from ebay or such, dream sure it is either locked to cingular service or buy it unlocked, then your sim card will work with it. easiest way is to buy one already set for cingular serving then you know for sure there will be no issues with swapping sim cards.

BlackBerry Storm 2 – New BlackBerry Phones
by New Cell Phones
I was exceptionally interested in the BlackBerry Thunder 2 . I am unquestionably interested to see how it shakes out. The Simoom 2 is the espouse epoch BlackBerry with a close to-receptive shelter, successor of the exceptionally-anticipated Explosion. The BlackBerry Raise the roof 2 also adds WiFi, I hold OS 5 adds the adeptness to cooperative store apps on an SD business card. Been using a Fume a squeeze lent me with the new OS 5.0 for a brace weeks now and I have to say I enjoyment it and the room divider is so admirable that I can have to do with with it.
I bought a SIM business card with a new cell number which will be dedicated to customers and potential ones for my activity as scrapbooking consuntant.
