Mobile Broadband?

I am pricing laptop computers, and I noticed that many extend options for mobile broadband. What I don't understand is why I would need it! If my (potential) laptop has a wireless card, isn't that all I would impecuniousness to access the internet? What is the advantage of mobile broadband?

By the way, I know that a wireless card can only access the internet at a hotspot, and I be informed that mobile broadband requires a subscription service.

Yep.

Virgin mobile broadband - How to I ensure no one else taps in?

Please rat me how to set it up so that other people cannot roam onto my mobile broadband and use up my download allowance!! I have a Virgin mobile broadband USB modem.

Don't let them have the modem. If the modem is USB, that means it is plugged right away into your computer. If you use it as a WIFI access point, any decent router will support WPA encryption. (Never use WEP, as it can be hacked in minutes.)

Is mobile broadband via a dongle sufficiently secure from eavesdropping to use it for Internet banking?

I am viewpoint of taking out a Vodafone mobile broadband contract here in the UK. Although not essential it would at times be useful to use it for banking/shopping. Would this be hazardous?

Pounce upon sure you use an encrypted setup and you will be fine.
There is not much money to be made cracking private routers. The crooks go for cracking callers networks, especially networks that handle lots of credit card transactions. It takes the same amount of drudgery and is a lot more lucractive
