What is the reason that you would buy an Ultra-Mobile PC instead of a notebook or PDA?
May 09, 2007 by WHYwhyWHY | Posted in Laptops & Notebooks
I do not dig the benefits of an Ultra-Mobile PC. Want to know what you guys out there think about it so that i would have more 2nd opinion.
I'm guessing you get the power of a laptop, without all the addition baggage, and the totability of a PDA, with more productivity potential. I understand your question. I have a laptop and PDA legitimate use them accordingly, rather than wish I had something better or smaller. I can pack my laptop in a backpack with all the accessories, and if I in fact need it, take it out and use it in a minute.
My PDA is great for in car use, such as an MP3 player, a GPS, or an in-car phone system (still working on that one), also, I use it as a piece of instrument in a way by jotting down notes and grocery lists.
My advice is to not get one until you've made sure that it'll provide your bosom "best of both worlds." If you have a chance, ask a sales associate to let you accomplish one around the store, play with it, and see how convenient it is on the go.
From seeing the prices, you can get a decent laptop with more power. Perhaps even both a decent laptop and a decent PDA. Its all what you want out of it. To me, its like a smartphone, which is cool, but if you run out of battery power, you suffer the loss of both a phone and a PDA until its recharged.

What is a good list of tools to get for a mobile PC technician?
Sep 21, 2006 by Goobernacular | Posted in Other - Computers
I am starting my own mobile PC technician post, and I was wanting to get some recommendations as to what I should purchase in the way of tools. So far I have the following:
Basic tool kit (screwdrivers, screws, etc..)
Network guy, crimper, connectors, etc...
Hard drives (for data cloning and backup)
Adaptors (To disciple serial ata/IDE to usb, etc...)
Blank media (CD's, Floppy disks)
Bootable CD's
What other suggestions would you guys succeed a do over? Also, is Norton Ghost the best cloning software (that's all I've ever used), or could you recommend something more advisedly for hard drive cloning and backup? Thanks a million!
Get a hint drive and load some utilities on it, like antivirus/antispyware installers. My choicest tool is a Knoppix linux boot cd. It loads linux into RAM and allows access to sedulous drives (even if Windows wont boot) and it includes web browsing software and CD scorching software. I use the CD burning to salvage files from bad hard drives before formatting. As far as imaging, Ghost is the finest one that I know of.
